The common masses of India prefer to travel by train most of the time. Every day, millions of Indians travel by train to their destination. The railways in India, Indian Railways, is a fully government owned enterprise. Indian Railways is headquartered at New Delhi, the capital of India.
 
The Indian Railways was ceremoniously founded on 16 May 1853, in British India, and the first train ran between Mumbai and Thane. PNR is mainly used to check your IRCTC PNR to know if your ticket is confirmed, in RAC, or waitlisted, but it can also be used for customer services enquiries with the railways.

Your IRCTC PNR number is used by the railways to identify your ticket details. It has many uses. If you are talking to the customer care, all you have to do is to give them your PNR and they can get all needed information without you having to dictate all of it. IRCTC PNR can also be used to check the reservation status of your ticket.
